Itinerary
Saturday, Day 1: San Jose
Today is your day to relax and enjoy Costa Rica’s capital city. You can sight-see and explore the old theatre or sample the Latin-American Cuisine. We’ll kick off the trip in style with an evening happy hour.
Day 2: Canyoning and Mountain Biking in Turrialba
And the adventure begins! We’ll leave San Jose early and make our way to Turrialba, a real “off-the-beaten-path” town with plenty of adventure activities to satisfy everyone. We’ll start with an exciting canyoning tour down a gorgeous river. You’ll rappel down waterfalls and zip-line across luscious forests as we traverse down the miles of jungle. After a much-needed break for lunch, we’ll continue the day with an epic mountain bike ride through the mountains and end up at our private hotel, where you’ll enjoy dinner and wine under the stars at the outdoor dining area.
Meals included: B, L
Day 3: Rafting and Camping on the Pacuare River
The Pacuare River is regularly described as one of the most spectacular whitewater rivers in the world and it’s clear why. We’ll spend the day on the river, battling the class IV rapids and taking in the magnificent scenery. Save your paddling energy though, because we’ve got a special treat: two whole days on the river. After a couple of hours, we’ll pull over to our riverside huts to set up camp for the night. Then we’ve got all afternoon and evening to hike around and explore the pristine forest. The best part? You can only get to the campsite by raft so we’re sure to get privacy.
Meals included: B, L, D
Day 4: Rafting on the Pacuare and Night at Saripiqui
After a leisurely breakfast along the riverside, we’ll pack up our stuff and get back on the rafts to finish the river. If you enjoyed the first day, you’ll love the second day. It’s almost like the river knew to save the best for last, with even better rapids than the first part. Once we finish we’ll have a chance for hot showers and then get back in the van to head over to the next destination – Saripiqui, another off-the-beaten-path adventure town.
Meals included: B, L
Day 5: Saripiqui
Sleep in! Finally, you’ll get some time to relax. We’ll have a leisurely morning where you can sleep in or check out the town. Today we’ve got a light hike in Saripiqui followed by a pineapple tour. Yes, you read that correctly – we’ll be doing a pineapple tour. Mmm mmm! Then it’s off to the beautiful of Arenal.
Meals included: B, L
Day 6: Ziplining in La Fortuna and Arenal
La Fortuna is home to the famous Arenal Volcano and is one of Costa Rica’s hot spots, both literally and figuratively. Our hotel has breath-taking views of the volcano and the luscious surrounding forest will leave you feeling like you’re in paradise. On the books for the morning is the world famous Sky Trek: an incredible zip-line across miles of jungle and tree tops. This is an exciting day with 8 rappels, the longest one being half a mile long and over 600 feet above the ground! After a thrilling morning, you’ll have a free afternoon to soak in the sun or enjoy one of the many exciting activities the town has to offer: canyoning tours, kayaking on the lake, horseback riding, etc.
Meals included: B
Day 7: Hike Cerro Chato in Arenal and Hot Springs
Today we’ll wake up early for our last activity – an unbelievable hike up Cerro Chato, the peak that stands next to the volcano. It’s a tough hike, but you’ll be ready for it after your action-packed week of activities. The views are unmatched in this hike and you’ll get to take in the beautiful Costa Rican jungle one last time as you trek through the forest. And we’ve saved the best for last – after we’re all beat and exhausted from the epic week, you’ll have the option to finish off the trip with a night at the relaxing natural hot springs in Arenal. We can spend the night at one of the most private hot springs and enjoy margaritas in the pool as a celebration.
Meals included: L
Day 8: San Jose - Departure
This is it, our last day together in paradise. Not to worry though, you’ll be going with enough memories and photos to last a lifetime, not to mention you’ll be able to make all of your friends jealous on facebook!
