Our Trips Sterling Forest Fire Tower Hike
Your high-rise may have fantastic views of the city skyline, but it doesn’t even compare to the 360 degree panoramic vistas you’ll get when climbing up the Sterling Forest Fire Tower. This intermediate six-mile hike has it all—beautiful woods, stunning viewpoints, and serene lakeside trails.
We’ll depart Manhattan at 9 am and drive over to Sterling Forest, where we’ll start our hike with an ascent up the Sterling Ridge Trail. The views along the way are impressive, but they’re just the precursor for the panorama that awaits you atop the tower. Halfway-in to the hike we’ll reach the Sterling Fire Tower, the only tower still in commission in all of New York State. If you’re not afraid of heights (or even if you are), you can climb up the 60-foot structure to gain the most magnificent views in the area. After a leisurely lunch, we’ll head down to Sterling Lake and make our way back to the parking lot along the picturesque waterfront.

Departure: 9 am, corner of 96th and Broadway (near the 1, 2, 3, B, and C trains and 96 and 106 buses)
Return: around 6 pm, corner of 96th and Broadway
